Ethio-Re participated in the 42nd Annual Conference of Organization of Eastern and Southern Africa Insurers(OESAI) which was conducted between 24th-28th of August, 2019 at Rwanda Kigali Convention Center.

Immediately before the conference Ethio-Re joined OESAI. The Organisation of Eastern and Southern Africa Insurers (OESAI) was formed in 1973 through an initiative of insurance and reinsurance companies in Eastern and Southern Africa.  Over the years the membership has grown to 126 Members. It is well remembered that Ethiopian Re has joined African Insurance Organization (AIO) and the Federation of Afro-Asian Insurers and Reinsurers "F.A.I.R. to signal its brand presence in the international business arena, expand its business network, to promote cooperation among insurance and reinsurance companies in Africa and Asia, through the regular exchange of information, expertise and the development of business relations, among others.


Ethio-Re discharges its Corporate Social Responsibilities through engaging itself in national events. This year, the company’s employees took part in a tree-planting national project in which Ethiopia set to break world record by planting 200 million tree saplings on July 29, 2019 under the auspices of the Green Legacy National Project.


The national 4-billion tree planting project officially launched by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed on May 26, 2019 is set to mobilize national reforestation programme of planting 40 tree seedlings per head. #GreenLegacy, is an ambitious undertaking to become a green society by planting various types of eco-friendly seedling to combat environmental degradation and, a national platform that will be used for various societal green activities. Through activities of this kind, Ethio-Re will continue to play its corporate citizenship roles.

IN alliance with the Association of Ethiopian Insurers (AEI), Ethio-Re conducted a four full days Insurance Product Development Master Class Training at Best Western Plus Hotel, Addis Ababa between 29 July, 2019 and 1 August ,2019.

The training was given by the renowned facilitators from Red Pear Communications Company LTD.


Ethio-Re as a close partner of the Ethiopian Insurance Industry has identified this critical gap and organized this master class workshop to help companies become self-equipped in developing insurance products suitable for the needs and wants of the society, understand the factors influencing product development and how product development should be approached, as a concept, in the insurance context.

The Four Days Master class has been designed to provide participants with a complete guide to innovating, developing, managing, and executing products in the sector. The comprehensive agenda has covered all the necessary knowledge, principles and lessons learned on how to develop effective insurance products that provide insurance organizations with a competitive advantage with customers in today’s very competitive market landscape.

The training was attended by Senior Executives, Marketing and Business Development Managers as well as Product Development Managers from all insurance companies.

Ethio-Re has successfully organized market training entitled “Underwriting Political Violence and Terrorism Risk” in collaboration with Afro Asian Insurance Brokers and Beazley of London on 4 and 5 April, 2019 Hyatt Regency Hotel, Addis Ababa.



The training was particularly designed to enhance the underwriting and technical knowledge of staff of insurance companies whose primary responsibility involves underwriting Political Violence and Terrorism Risk.

All employees as well as Board of Directors of Ethiopian Re would like to express their deep condolences and prayers to all the families of those who lost their lives on the Ethiopian Airlines flight to Nairobi.

We are all saddened by the death of the 157 passengers and crew members of the Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 which crashed Sunday morning. Our thoughts go out to all those affected by this terrible news and would like to offer heartfelt condolences to those who have lost family, friends and loved ones as a result of this tragedy.
